A google search on the SA-XR30 shows that it is a 5.1 channel European model.

It is not sold in the states so most folks here won't know much about it.

I have no idea if you would be happier with another model. You have not stated why you might be unhappy with the SA-XR30.

Most sellers of the Panasonic receiver offer a 30 trial period. Perhaps you should order a SA-XR50 or 70 to try and find out for yourself.

Wayne1 is right - XR30 is a European model. I have also asked (on another forum)  a question about an old version which I know is available in Eurpoe XR15. Just to give all you US ciitizens a taste of the difference in prices between US & Europe, this little baby is on sale for 349 euro ($452) - crazy isn't it. The retailer is chancing his arm.

I think it is first generation like the XR10 but not nearly as powerful - only 50W per channel. No technical info available on the Web

I was asking about its sound, the chips used & its comparison to XR10 model & its modifiability?

Can anybody here help?

What i was wondering was if there were any differences between the 30 and the 50. was also wondering if there were anyone who is familer with the cap 100 if they thought this would be an improvement or a downgrade. mostly want to know if there are differences in the chipset between these 2 models im in canada and the price differences is only like 50 bucks. oh and i have no clue if i like one omore than the other. I only picked up the panny 30 last night but theres one 50 in the city so i need to jump on it If im gonna get it.

actually, the xr30 is a canadian model too. woops, your from canada, doh.  If you want to see how the xr30 compares to the xr50, go to www.panasonic.ca.  You can even download the xr30's owners manual.  From looking at the site, the xr30 weighs in at 8.8lbs, with the xr50 weighing in at 9.3lbs.  Also, power consumption is different too.  The xr30 is advertised as having 100w power consumtion, the xr50 has 135 watts.  I think this is 1/8 power or so, but still gives you an idea that its got a less beffier p/s sections than the xr50.  Although, it may also have less power because it doesn't feature a surround back channel. However, the xr30 still advertises 100x2@6ohms with .09%thd.  If you want to look at a good comparison between the two, go here:

http://www.panasonic.ca/English/audiovideo/audio/hometheatre/specs3.asp

The xr50 has more inputs, and probably more reserve power in the power supply, so I'd recommend the xr50 unless you're on a budget constraint. Hope this helps :)
