Restore Kenwood KA-2000?

Restore Kenwood KA-2000?

I have a Kenwood Integrated KA-2000 and think it sounds great, albeit with clear limitations.
BUT I find myself smiling when I listen to it!
I'm wondering if some restoration would open up the sound, quiet the sound floor and clean up freq response with tone controls and loudness.
I mean new caps, resistors, transistors, etc.
Anyone have thoughts on a project like this (I know a guy who can do an excellent job)?

Due the historical value I suggest keep it original and get a new amp, after the restoration it will be not better than a new amp and no more a Kenwood.

Except it really doesn't have any "historical" value.  It's a low power mid fi amp that does't sell for any more upgraded than it will as is... probably $100-175.    So it's all about what are you willing to spend and does it make you happy?
