Hello,
Long time audiophile, been building systems since 1970's. Over the years I've transitioned towards high efficiency speakers, SET amps. At present I'm running Art Audio Carissa Signatures, Coincident Turbos 845 SE (both 845 tube amps) with modified Klipschorns. I"m also experimenting with various SS and lower powered SET amps to augment or use as summer replacements for space heater 845 amps. Right now I have both Denafrips Hyperion and Musical Fidelity M2si in house. Custom built 300B SET monoblocks should be here next week. Hopefully a First Watt in a few months.

Thus far class a/b ss amps have been better than expected. Still, these don't have what I would call the 'breath of life' of the 845 SET's. These SET's have a special way with microdynamics, tubes are valves, it seems to me valves act much like lungs. Tubes/valves breathe (expressed as microdynamcis) to emulate the breath of humans performing music. These SS amps in this system alter these microdynamics, SET's are like a wave, SS more stepped, transitions between these slight gradations of dynamics less lifelike.

Still, I'm not done with SS experiments. Class A next in line, perhaps I'll get my NEW (Nirvana Electronic Works) DCA 60's (class a, wheelchair battery powered) out of storage.

I'm also into modifications. I've built amps and phono preamps from kits with modified part substitutions. On occasion I'll substitute parts in all my equipment. My present Klipshorns retain only the bass part of the cabinet in stock form.

Anyway,  the forums here seem less confrontational than some others, I've found myself transitioning over here more lately.

Scott
