I just found this amp on the Radio Shack website. There is no mention of the technology used. It may be tripath based? They are apparently selling their house products under the Accurian name now.

It has some funky technology.. what is this about?

"New technology enables rear speakers in your surround-sound system to function without connecting to player. Produces clean, clear, interference-free sound in your rear-channel speakers."

and...

"Transmits high-quality, multichannel digital audio signals using AC wiring as data carrier"

HomePlug was (is) promoted as an alternative to wired ethernet or wireless for networking. It uses your household AC wiring. I haven't looked at it in quite a while so I haven't kept up. But wireless networking became so popular it looked like HomePlug was dead in the water. Looks like it's finding its way into more esoteric apps.

I've got one of their wireless amp setups for my rear surround sound speakers, and it is very nice sound indeed!  I've yet to hear a crackle or pop out of it.

It could either be a tripath amp or trained chipmunks running a generator, for all I know...

The Radio shack amp is not digital based. I just received this email from their customer support

In checking, the Cat# 15-1937 utilizes an amplifier IC chip.
