While I wait for my veneer to turn up …..
« on: 13 Nov 2021, 11:34 pm »
Gents,

Whilst I wait for my veneer to turn up (so frustrating that it’s been sitting at the local Toll depot for 2 weeks and it’s only 15mins away… but they are swamped at present) I’ve a number of questions which I’d like to throw open to the community for input :

  • I’m planning room treatment and want to build some diffusers for my X-statik / X-Voce (And OB subs eventually) .  The QRD 1D plans look great and within my skill-set to create.  I’ve also stumbled on folded well diffusers which look like QRD diffusers in a better engineered package.  Does anyone have any experience with these beasts and could you share thoughts etc.?
  • The speakers I am building are already heavy - 18kg / 40lb empty - no driver or crossover installed yet.  How do you move them about without damaging them, yourself or the furniture?  I can only image how heavy an OB sub must be with integrated amp!

The link to folded well diffusers, free build plans etc. I found at :

In regards to question 2, the X-Statics aren’t too bad to move around surprisingly. The weight is concentrated into the lower section of the speaker which makes them less unwieldy once you pick them up.

I put my speakers on furniture sliders until I figure out exactly where I am going to place them long term.

Thanks for the tips, guys.  I like the idea of the furniture sliders
