I heard the Abyss several times at RMAF over the years and was never very impressed.  I found the Meze Empyrean at $3k to be a much better performer.

The newest Phi TC version with brand new drivers started shipping early this year, and yeah, I did read some mixed reviews about prior versions. 
I believe the problem is it takes a long time to get the fit correct with the Abyss.  I almost sent mine back until I figured it out, and I can't imagine how various people with all kinds of head/ears could have gotten the fit correct under show conditions   :dunno:
