3B-ST Channel 1 clipping

Bought this amp brand new back in 98' and used it sparingly for the first year or two after which a move forced me to box in original carton and kept it stored in a spare room. Within the last 3 weeks moved into a larger place allowing me to unbox and set up my audio gear again. Everything  went well till this weekend. Playing a CD at low/ moderate levels I saw the clipping indicator turn from green to red in channel 1 only. The sound coming out of my left speaker was nothing short of garbage.  Immediately turned off everything and checked all cables make sure nothing was shorting and all cables were fine. Following morning was seated in front of my computer listening to CD, after about 30 minutes heard some very distorted sounding music coming from left speaker. Ran over to equipment rack and  noticed  that the clipping indicator for channel 1 was again red. Turned off everything and started to switch speaker cables, interconnects at the back of amp from preamp etc. went back to listening after these changes and channel 1 clipping indicator would light up red again and music coming from left speaker was distorted. Also noticed prior to clipping indicator turning red music sounded compressed, soudstage had collapsed and bass sounded loose. This is the exact opposite of what this amp normally sounds like.  I have now disconnected amp from my sytem and am left wondering what exactly could be the problem. Any help woulb be appreciated.  This amp has very low hours of usage. Thanks.   :(

Sounds like you are doing the right trouble shooting.  I would just send the amp to Bryston and they will get you up and running fairly quickly.  You are definitely covered warranty wise.  I would not try the further trouble shooting as there is a small chance the amp my do some damage to your speakers.

Thanks for the reply Eric. Yeah my next move is to send the amp back for repair. I am disappointed that this happened with such low hours of usage on the amp but I'm very grateful for the 20 year Bryston warranty! I am still left scratching my head as what component or group of components failed to cause this.  :?
