What are SUTs ?
« on: 13 Jun 2019, 06:04 pm »
I looked at a phono preamp and the description said that it had built in SUTs. What are SUTs? Most relevant online definition seemed to be "system under test" but I don't know if that is what it means for audio components.
Thanks

A general description of the function of an SUT in a phono stage is to provide the additional gain needed by low output moving coil cartridges when compared to a typical moving magnet cartridge. An SUT can be an external device with a MC cartridge feeding its inputs and its output feeding the input of an MM phono stage, or used internally in an MM/MC phono stage and would then only be wired to the MC input.
