Sony UBP-X800 streaming Spotify
« on: 5 Mar 2019, 04:03 am »
I purchased the Sony UBP-X800 to play Blu-rays and tried streaming Spotify to see what it sounded like. There audio is set to 192khz and run through a Yggdrasil dac. I am paying for the premium service and am amazed at how much more detail this Blu-ray player passes via the RCA digital coax onto the Yggy.  I had been using a laptops USB into the  schiit upgraded USB.  It is no contest how much more dynamic the Sony's Spotify stream is.

Without going into a lot of explanation, simply, laptops are suboptimal source components. Read up on it. Lots of info out there.

I also use an Yggy DAC but when I feed it Spotify the source is a Sonore Microrendu. The sound gets even better when I play lossless or even high res files (from a dedicated hard drive) using J River through the Microrendu. I don't think the Yggy plays to its potential until fed very high quality sources.

Thanks for your comments. I know about the short comings of laptops.  I thought having SSD and unplugging it would help.  The Dell did sound nice but spotify directly through the Sony really surprised me.  I have spent so much money so far I am hesitant to more components to the mix.

I really would like to hear the effects of the MicroRendu on someones system first.

I use the Sony UHPH1 and it is similar. You can go into settings and slect audio, then engage dsee-hx and it does a GREAT job upscaling to hirez. I think that's why it blows aqay a PC:

I think Sony's dsee-hx technology is mainly for lossy sources, not lossless.

It's easy enough to test, just disable it , listen, enable it, listen. If you like it leave it on.
