Hi Frank, is this your work? Looks quite old and nothing close to today's Super Pas 3. Buyer's got a good deal even if it was a unmodded Dyna unit.

What preamp are you refering to?  No link, no name, no ID at all.

Please supply better info.

Frank,
On page one of this thread, he's referring to the 1986 VanAlstine Transcendence Series Two, that was in the PAT-5
enclosure that I picked up, bought the NOS power switch from you, and then you gave me the resistor values and method to lower the Dynaco trannie to a 220V.
Thus reducing the heat by quite a bit! The only resistors that Mark had on hand were some NASA type stainless steel jacketed resistors,  :o, but I plan on putting something a little more normal in the coming week.
Yes, rcag_ils-
it is up and running, and sounding quite good.  My audio mentor says it sounds the equal of my Grounded Grid.  I'm not sure about that, but I am very happy with it.  I plan to put it into my vinyl rig this weekend and check out the phono section.  Good fun!

Not sure how I missed the link, sorry Frank, but here it is.

What's puzzling about this one is there's no Noble pots anywhere, almost all early or late Super Pas I've seen all have Noble pot, even for what I thought the very early one, this one must be the first gen. I love that business card.

Someone got a deal there. Hopefully they will post here with their thoughts once they have it.

That PAS did start out as a very early version of the Super Pas long before we started furnishing new volume and balance controls.

It has been subsequently loaded up with great gobs and stacks of ugly big capacitors that certainly were not done here.

Since it is being offered as is and not tested, I would recommend avoiding this one. No way to tell what else is strange and or not working.

Sorry, Frank
I did not realize that rcag_ils had usurped my thread with another unit completely! :x
My non-tube version has the noble pots!
I did like that someone had taped Frank's 70's business card to the bottom of that tubed unit.
I wonder how long it took Frank to get rid of all those business cards.

There was a thread for posting vintage AVA, but for reason #1 I am not good at finding old thread, #2 I am lazy, so I "borrowed" yours. Sorry about that.

When I looked at the lay out of the parts, I kind of knew it wasn't Frank's work, whoever did this, I hope he didn't change the circuit integrity and kept everything original. Good luck to the guy who bought it.

The business card looked too convincing for someone who's interested in a vintage AVA unit, almost got me.

Maybe it is a really excellent sounding business card though?

Very old thread but I just picked one of these PAT5's up. The power switch light is dead and previous owner bypassed it. It' look to be pretty charded up on the back side I saw a post here that Frank had NOS original switches (or did way back when). Does he still?

Sounds like the same 'problem' I had with my first AVA product. It was an early AVA-modded PAT-5. I had the power amp plugged into one of the convenience outlets on the back of the pre. I called Frank about it. He said "Don't do that".

I no longer plug the power amp into the convenience outlets of the pre.
