B60 to SST Upgrade Questions

Hello All,

I learned from this forum (thank you, James Tanner) that it's possible to upgrade the B60 to SST output devices. I've sent email and made a couple of phone calls to Bryston Canada (tech. support, professional folks) and have found that not all B60s can be upgraded. Apparently, the PCBs in some of the early versions are not compatible.

My questions are:

What is the earliest B60 that is upgradeable?

I have 9915, and the gentlemen I spoke to on the phone seemed to think it could not be upgraded.

Should I be calling Bryston Canada or Bryston in Vermont?

The reply to my email asked where I was sending from.

Is it also possible to add the DAC option?

Once I know which years are upgradeable, I will find one. I love my B60 and want it to be the best it can be.

Hi Orsen,

I do not beleve any of the B60's can be updated to the SST Series but I will check with engineering tomorrow. If I have said that elsewhere in the forum I will have to revisit that section and correct it.

You can update any of the B60's to the DAC.

HI Orson,

Checked with engineering this morning and there is no upgrade from the previous B60 to the new B60 SST. It has a different main board. The link refers to some small part changes on the older B60.
B60's from serial number 601360 can have the SST output devices.

Thanks, that will help! I am motivated to find one with SSTs since I heard a 2B-SST recently.

On another note, I have a 3B-ST; is it possible to upgrade it?

Hi Orson,

Gee I hate having to keep saying no to you but the ST can not be upgraded to the SST. The SST output stage is completely different so it is not possible.

By the way we really think the new 2B SST is something very special. Where did you hear it?

It was actually a 2B-LP Pro with SST output devices (according to my friend). He built a recording studio in his house, and we use it to record guitar tracks, etc.
