bdp 1 and tidal
« on: 20 Oct 2018, 01:56 pm »
Hi all,
brand new member here and new owner of a used bdp 1.
Recently updated to the latest mpd update and starting a 30 day Tidal trial.
All is well streaming via pc using the hifi setting,
but when I use Tidal via my bdp1 every song will try to start but won't play.
It just goes from song to song trying to play until the playlist is ended.
I am no computer whiz, so I'm hoping I have chosen an improper setting some where .
Would welcome any suggestions, thanks.

Welcome to AC!

I don't use BDP1 but I've had similar fast track skipping symptom with Roon>network renderer and I cure it by restarting the network renderer. Maybe restarting player/DAC in a certain order could help.

If you find your equipment is all fine, as a last resort try using VPN, because it is known that some ISPs do in fact throttle Tidal in some markets. I had this problem of Tidal desktop app playing fine, but all other 3rd party Tidal hosts like Roon and Sonos (like BDP1) would get throttled causing delayed playback, pausing and skipping tracks due to poor network performance. VPN cured it by encrypting my traffic so neither ATT nor Tidal could see where I was coming from or heading to. I used Tunnelbear, it has a 500MB free trial which is enough to determine if throttling by ISP or mis-prioritizing your requests at Tidal is the problem. I doubt it, but as a last resort it's worth a try. Good luck

Hey thanks for the warm welcome.
Well I got it figured out. I had the Tidal set on the premium setting.
When I saw it in the settings ( I didn't scroll down to see it the first 20 times ! )
I switched it to lossless and all is good.
So thanks again and I'm sure I will have more questions in the future,
as this learning experience continues.
Happy listening to all.
Btw I can't believe the difference in sound from my pc via Musical Fidelity v link 192 to dac,
so much more detail than before, and much nicer sounding at lower volume than before.
Quite a surprise.
Tom.
