Hi,
I've had an interest in music and audio for, I suppose about 50 years...
I got some Sonus amps connected to existing speakers a few years ago when I moved into my present house. Very convenient, but the constant software upgrades are a pain and the sound isn't great. So a few days ago, I pulled out an old Sansui AU-555a amp, which I assumed need some work, but it sounded so much better than the Sonus. So I started looking at recapping it and any other upgrades. Then I moved onto a Bryston 3B-ST that has been sitting in a box for the last 10 years or so. Before I put it in storage I shorted the outputs and replaced the output transistors (Bryston sent them to me for free - awesome service).
So when I plugged it in today - nothing. I opened her up and found the top of a LM317 in the bottom of the case. Pulled it apart and sure enough - the LM317 had blown it's top. So I am hoping to get some assistance from the forum getting it going again. The unit is from 1995, so I'll probably have to replace some caps - although they all look fine visually and the couple I pulled and tested were OK on the bench.
