Ideas on Vincent amps ??
« on: 11 Apr 2018, 09:08 pm »
Hello

I hear many good things on Vincent amps and related equipment...Reviews look good but not a lot of info on them other than German engineering made in China

Never heard one in person. Has anyone in particular the Vincent 331 amp, Vincent 31 preamp or Vincent 237 integrated

Like to hear real world comments other than Audio Advisor comments

Welcome - never heard them but Audio Advisor does carry them.  If in the US and you have no local dealer you can probably buy them and have a window to return them if not satisfied.

Wound up getting a good deal on a Parasound Halo P7 preamp to replace
My Halo P3 (keeping the synergy) for now with Halo A 23, T3, D3 items going thru B&W CDM9s

Next is amp..

Once again either a Parasound A21 new or Cary SA 200.2 used

Other ideas to consider with budget of 2k for amplification?
Thoughts on Bryston 4Bsst2, Classe CA200 etc? Pass was too high on pricing

A good buddy got the A21 for his system and Martin Logans.  Loves it
I had the HALO Integrated and it was a killer amp for the $
I have the Cary Pre amp and once again, for the $ it made a huge difference.  Cary is a great company.

Good luck....

Mostly now between the Cary 200.2 and A21.. The Halo P7 is actually a nice sounding amp which I won’t be using for anything other than 2 ch (for now but have the option) . The P5 actually sounded identical to my P3 . I don’t need the built in DAC since my Oppo 205 handles that.

Reason for amp upgrade is B&Ws do sound better with proper amplification and I may move
My Thiels in from other system and they definitely love more power

Sounds like the A21 would keep the synergy going.  When my buddy was looking we ended up with the A21 paired with a Quicksilver tube pre out to his Logans.  Plenty of power and the pre added a touch of smooth if you will that made it all just perfect for him and his room...

It’s amazing how the synergy thing goes. Hated the A 23 and P3 separately. When combined it smoothed each other out. The balanced xlr cables completed the smoothness and then the JW chronically cables locked it all down. The P7 has a very good preamp section which is often underrated

Cool.  My current system is my first where I am XLR/balanced all the way from Dac to amps.  I think that makes a difference- or at least it did with this setup. My DAC and amps are same Mfg.  Pre right now is Cary.  I may upgrade the pre and trifecta the "synergy" or may not.  If I get a pre here and can't tell the difference, Cary wins. BAT looks impressive as well.   Would love to try the Cary SL-05!  Big bucks though. Parasound brings great value, quality and sound.  Decent customer support too.  hard to beat.

BAT systems are amazing sounding. Another league like Pass. Won’t get the WAF if I went that route . It’ll cost me a Chanel handbag !!!!

Really like Cary. Heard the SLI-80 . Smooth and warm. They all get pricey real quick which is why I was looking at the 200.2 used. Glowing reviews

I have spoke to Billy at Cary multiple times... Today in fact.  Watch "B-Stock" and Pre-owned at Cary Direct and you may get lucky.. "Smooth and warm" is exactly what the Cary did for my system that was a little to clinical and dry.

Also watch these guys, they are local here in Colorado and sell a lot of pre owned Cary:

Yup... TMR always gets a lot of good stuff. Was looking at a McCormack amp there a while back but wanted more punch plus amp was 20yrs old (like my old Adcom system)

I have a friend here in the Twin Cities that has a Halo A21 that he is selling.  It is black and not too old.  It is in great shape 10/10.  He replaced it with a Pair of Pass XS-100.5 mono blocks.   Let me know if you are interested and I will get you in touch with him.

If you want warm, go with the Vincent.  I have another friend that has the SP 331MK and loves it.

But for just a bit more than a new A21 you can get this Pass X250 from Audiogon.

https://www.audiogon.com/listings/lis8g7d7-pass-labs-x250-solid-state

Owning both an A21 and an X250, the A21 sounds mid fi in comparison.  I also have a friend in St. Louis that would like to sell his X250 as he bought a Levinson 532H.

Just be aware that the X250 weighs about 105 pounds and the A21 60 pounds.

I own the older Vincent SV-236MK integrated and have used it to drive Martin Logan Montis speakers.  It is a very musically pleasing amp with stable output and drives the ES panels with ease and aplomb.  In the years that I have owned the unit it has been extremely reliable.  I also own a Vincent Hybrid head amp which is used almost daily to drive a variety of high Ohm cans and other than rolling a tube occasionally, it too, has been excellent in clean and accurate sound signal.
