They have RCA plugs and purchase them from Best Buy.

I haven't experimented yet for fear of frying something.

If they work, is this a "bad idea", "good idea", "will work and is no different to inexpensive audio interconnects"?

They'll work just fine.

Try them and see if you're fine with how they sound. Maybe you'll like 'em, maybe you won't. Gotta try it to know for sure.
