problems with 7BST

Do the 7BST come with the matched pair which have the same series number & the same produced date? Do each one play a fixed role as right or left amp when they come as a pair?
I am considering to buy a demo pair from a local dealer. But the two ones do not have the same series number or successive ones, even their produced "years" are different!  One sounds loudly than the other, even when their left and right positions are switched, the same amp have the different speaker sound loudly.

Is there somthing wrong here? :nono:

Hi CHCH,

Some customers would order the 7B's as a pair and want the serial numbers to match. It was not a requirement though because the 7B's are all manufactured to exacting standards so mixing older versions  with newer is not usually a problem.

If one sounds louder than the other check to see that the sensitivity or gain switch on the back of each of the amplifiers is the same. Set them both to 1 Volt.

Thanks a lot!
Your reply is really helpful!

But I can not find the gain switch on the rear panel!

Should I open the box?

When they work in the series mode, the problem happens. When they work in the parallel mode, they work well. Why?

They must be older units if they do not have the gain controls.
Is there one pair or 2 pairs of speaker outputs on the back?

Their is one pair of speaker outputs on the back as shown on page 5 of the manual at your home page
http://www.bryston.ca/pdfs/38bst_manual.pdf.

Strangely, after hours of playing, I switch them back to the series mode, they work well again!

HI CHCH,

Ok if there are only 1 pair of speaker outputs then you can not hook it up wrong, which is good.
So all you do is switch the Series - Parrallel switch back and forth depending on the drive required.
Fo 99.9% of speakers the Series is usually best.
Maybe the 'gremlin' has departed?
