Welcome!
Most of what is heard through an audio system is a function of the speakers. Speaker selection largely boils down to matters of individual taste. When shopping for speakers a through audition is critical. Start with a proper environment (not a noisy showroom floor, but a private room somewhat similar to your's and hopefully not a cubic box shape); with at least a decent setup, again similar to what you have at home (speakers away from the wall/other gear and symmetrical to the listening spot); using a variety of music you've brought that you're familiar with and represents the range of what you most often listen to; take notes (forces you to really listen and not try to remember what you heard); an hour is certainly not too long for a full audition, don't let the sales staff hurry you; and don't try to audition more than 3 or 4 speakers per day.
Once you get to be experienced you'll be able to dismiss speakers instantly, but picking out what you want to live with is much tougher. These speakers may work better in some sort of A/V application. Recommend picking out the room first (hardest to change and the second biggest factor in what we hear), then speakers, then source(s), and finally pre/power/integrated amp to serve/synergize with the speakers and source(s).
Take care.
