SP1.7 Aux IR in
« on: 23 Dec 2004, 08:45 pm »
What is the function of the AUX-IR in port on the SP1.7?  I was hoping that I could plug in an IR-Reciever into the port on the back to help "widen" the sensor range on my sp1.7.   I read the brief description in the manual but I wasn't clear on what it was for (i.e. An extra receiver, or a repeater?)

I sit at an angle to the component rack and usually have to do some funky physical manoevers to point the remote at the correct spot on the processor.  I was going to mount the "extra" receiver in a spot that would let me be less precise with my aiming.

(I make extensive use of girder to send commands, but the remote is so guest friendly)

I tried plugging in an IR Receiver I had lying around (from an old TV-Capture card) but it didn't detect anything from the remote.

Is anyone using the AUX IR and if so, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks and may your stocking be full of AIX DVDAs come saturday...

Gravy,

I have a Xantech IR extender.  The way it works is ......

IR Receiver > Distribution "amp" > IR emitters.

The emitters are attached to the distribution amp via 3.5 mm male mono mini jacks (like earphone jacks).  The emitters stick on just in front of the LED receiver on the component.

For the SP  1.7 I have a male to male 3.5 mm plug from the Xantech distribution amp directly to the Aux In on the back of the SP 1.7.  Works like a champ.

The IR receiver (at least the Xantech) one is powered so it needs juice from the distribution amp.  Plugging it in directly to the SP 1.7 probably won't work

Thanks Eric - I was wondering if power was the problem.    I appreciate the info.  Maybe I can pick something up on ebay over the holidays.

Take care,
Scott
