FS: Naim Nait 5i ("i" in italics) Integrated Amp
« on: 29 Nov 2017, 03:20 am »
Naim Nait 5i (the "i" is in italics).
Great integrated amp. Not only is it much more powerful than the 50 watts listed, but it is very detailed and nuanced with the Naim PRAT (pace, rhythm, timing).

Per the serial number, this was manufactured in late 2012.

Amp is in perfect functioning condition. Cosmetically, there is a small chip on the corner of the unit, as seen in the pictures. It is hard to see. Otherwise, the unit is in perfect condition.

I've run this amp with KEF, Dali, Dynaudio, Zu Audio, etc.
Clean and clear sound from top to bottom.
Solid performer.
Price = $750

I will cover PayPal fees.

Will split shipping to lower 48 states.
The amp will be DOUBLE-BOXED in an original Naim double box (though the box was specifically for a Naim HDD unit, it fits the Nait 5i perfectly).

If you live nearby, might be able to meet you locally (Santa Cruz, CA)
thanks

Plus, I’m pretty sure I live near you - relatively speaking - except I don’t know where you live.

Howdy. Curious what this amp sounds like with ZU speakers...? I have a pair of Omen mk2 I'm looking for an amp to pair with. Thanks!

hey,
I have a pair of walnut Omen Mk II Rev-B bookshelves.  I ran them with the Nait 5i most of the time versus my other speakers.
It was the best match to my ears for a few reasons.

On its own, to my ears, the Omen bookshelves can be a little flat in some voice areas and a little soft particularly in the lower registers.
I mean, Im not expecting much in the low end from bookshelves, but thats how i heard it.
So I matched the Nait with the Omens to give them more of tighter, cleaner, but fast and dynamic sound.

The tones & timbers are now more "normal" to me with the Naim, and Naim allows a more delineated low end.
The PRAT of the Nait overcomes the weaknesses of the Omen in very good ways. they complement each other well.

In fact, I also used Nordost speaker cables with the Nait and Omens, adding another layer of clean dynamic sound,
but retaining enough warmth of the Omens to keep it real live sounding. So i'm keeping the Omens!

So I just put in an order today for the Zu Undertone sub before they end the sale tomorrow.
I plan to run it with the Omens above and a pair of floor standers, Dynaudio Contour S3.4s.
Best, Gary

Sorry, just wanted to add that as you may know, 50 watts of Naim is equal to about 100-150 watts of
Sony/Yamaha "audiophile" grade electronics. Naim has always rated their amp power conservatively.

Consequently, since the Omens are a 12 ohm design and SPL (98 or something), the Naim drives them
easily with room to spare. You can drive the hell out of the Omens if you want, but usually I listen to the
Nait at 3/10, but no higher than 5/10 even when rocking' out. (The room was only 450 sq feet).

Sorry for hogging the thread on my own ad! lol.
back to work .....

Wow! Thanks for this description. Very helpful. Why are you selling the Naims if they sound so darn good with the Omens? I think I might have to buy this amp from you to check it out. Very tempting. I’ll PM you.

The Naim amp is part of a 2nd/3rd system, which I like to experiment with, so I have other gear to drive the Omens.
I have a reference system with 3 pair of floorstanding speakers that I just acquired and will be playing with until the Spring time.
I'm at the peak of my audiophiliac disease!
And so I need to sell some gear, make some space around my place, and pay some bills.

I actually wanted to get a matching Naim CD player for the Nait 5i and do a more complete system,
but seeing that that will not happen soon (eg. above) , I have chosen to sell the Naim,
and just buy a Naim CDP and Amp combo in the future.
