Here is a beautiful pair of Soliloquy 5.0 monitors with their dedicated stands. Soliloquy was a boutique manufacturer in North Carolina spun off from (or related to) Cary Audio Designs. They are in excellent shape considering their age -- the only things to note are:
- One grill peg has broken off inside its hole...not visible with or without grills
- One or two of the threaded inserts at the bottom of one speaker (they can be bolted to stands) are slightly stripped, care must be taken attaching bolts; one original bolt has been replaced by a generic threaded screw
Here is my take:
They were purportedly designed to play well with tube amps, but I have had fantastic results with good solid state power. I would characterize them as lean mean dynamic machines – in contrast to my Harbeths, they present a more forward “live” sound with great midrange/treble detail and a huge bass. They trade off a tiny bit of warmth for lightning speed, and respond well to more power if available. They can hold their own with most mid-priced designs today. Plenty of reviews online.
Unfortunately I am relocating and would like these to go to a good home, hence the effort in listing them. Pricing is rock bottom – the stands themselves would be worth as much as these are some of the best designed stands I have ever used. Let these go to a good home, please.
No original boxes -- there is no way for me to ship these so pick up only in Detroit, Michigan.
MSRP: $1500 ($1000 +$500 for stands)
