I've decided on servo control, and the amplifiers I see from Rythmik and/or GR (I'm still not sure of the relationship there....) are on my short list. I've always considered sealed boxes for subs - but I'm seeing so much positive on open baffle.  I'm looking for pro's / con's of OB and sealed....
A little about me: this will be for 2 subs; stereo only; no HT; music lover..... looking to fill in the bottom octave from my Tannoy Monitor Gold 12's in a custom enclosure.
This will be a system I build myself; complex is OK.
My listening preferences are all over, but mostly classical, with hard jazz, classic rock, and Metallica thrown in.
My amps are Rowland; preamp is Rowlan; turntable is VPI; R2R is Revox; and I've been known to play a CD or two....

  • To whom more was given more will be required.

IMO, the only reason to put a servo controlled driver in a box is when your room is very small. Otherwise, open baffle is the better choice - dual or triple stereo subs, of course. If you put a woofer in a sealed box, it's gonna sound like it's in a sealed box.

  • Audio - It's all a big fake.
For a music lover, no question servo OB is better than box, IMO.

Welcome,
OB is very musical indeed if tou have the room. Remember they need to be 3' from the front wall.
The GR 12" servo  is very good in a box too. You really can't go wrong with either. The sealed subs seem to "pressurize" the room a bit more and play loud down low.
The OB subs are super quick up 200hz. Upper bass impact is really fun with those.
Danny used to show with OB subs up front and a sealed sub in the rear of the room behind the listening seat.
Usually some of the best bass at Rocky Mtn.
