Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery

Well they say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery definition." and I guess it was inevitable given enough time.
"Finished 4BSST Dual-Channel Pure After Level Power Amplifier Based on Bryston 4BSST Audio Amplifier Circuit"

At least they haven't tried to pass it off as a miniature version in looks and design  :duh: ...yet...lol

Think I'll stick with my SST2 for now though.  :thumb:

Remember that old Coke ad jingle?
It's the real thing.....

Seriously, didn't Bryston patent their circuits?  :duh:

In China, they're copying everything.  I think it's now a matter of Bryston stopping them. I had a friend who published/printed a children's book in China and a while later, they copied it and was selling it for less!!!  :o

That's the crux of patents.
They only provide protection if the patent holder wants to (ie has the $$$ to) pursue litigation. This kind of thing isn't just prevalent in China. It happens everywhere, where the risk is acceptable to the copy cat.

This sort of sums it up
“Nearly 87,000 copyright-related cases were filed in China last year, according to data compiled by China’s Supreme People’s Court,”
Problem is that there is actually very good equipment coming out of China and from what I’ve gathered they are rather passionate audiophiles.
Labour and environmental laws are rapidly changing but it’s still the blatant copying that’s rather bothering.

I know an audiophile in Taiwan whose two amplifiers and one preamp are perfect copies of other brands, but have a different brand name. He's quite proud that he paid 1/5 the price of the originals. I have no way to verify the quality of his copies, but they do not sound as good as I had anticipated they would.

As far as I can tell there is one big difference between the Taiwan market and the China market:

Copies are openly sold in China whereas you must have trusted connections to acquire copies in Taiwan (or order from a Chinese website, but Taiwan's customs may confiscate it).

I have not seen or heard about copied Bryston gear in Taiwan.
