I don't understand. You and the Tweeter guys are holding your ears from the digititis, you mention the midrange is only 2 dimensional, you state that the blacks aren't as black as you are used to......then you give it 9's and 8's! I mean, 9's and 8's are very high marks. I'm totally confused. What do you give the Meitner stack, or Alex's NWO 2.5 (a $25k machine), 14's and 15's? You are NOT what I would call a critical, tough grader. I wish I had you in British Lit in college.
I guess I could be your college prof. But I do not think you would like me then.

This is a high end player, just not MY cup of tea. It is too analytical, for me, but, comparing to SS sources I have owned, and compared to, it is a top notch player. Much in the way the DCS/elgar/purcell stack of 2 years ago sounded, this is my reminder. I could NOT live with either. I have found modding to be a path which I believe in. I see by your system, you are in agreement. I dunno what you would rate your MOdwright 999es platinum on a scale of 1-10, but, to me, musically, it would be over 8. On a sczle of 1-10, I could not rate ANYTHING over 10, if yaknow whatImean. I do not yet have the NWO 2.5, but I certainly hope it will be a SOLID, I will know next week. I have talked to friends who have it, and have told me they prefer it to their reference vinyl setups, and an additional plus is that it sounds better without a pre-amp, vs with. 1 buddy sold his DarTzeel pre-amp, when you fihure the difference between that, and the 22K NWO, it is like a wash.

The meitner is the first SS digital I have heard that approaches the sound I am looking to live with. I cannot rate it, cause I have never had it in MY system.

Imo I have found that most stock players, which are SS, are just too analytical sounding for me, and that taking a good player, putting in top notch caps, wiring, power supply's et, is the best way to sonic bliss.
