Wow!  :o I expected that the this speaker completely outclass my Athena AS-C1 but I didn't expect it to blow away the rest of my system. It all started when I replaced my old receiver with a 200 watt Outlaw Audio system. The Athena system with powered subs couldn't keep up so I got a pair of SVS PB2+ subs and added the final 2 surround speakers for a full 7.1 system. Not too shabby, well except for when we played Return of the King and Chronicals of Riddik on the system. Man, that center was weak! I didn't even bother playing music on the main system, I just used headphones on my pet project tube amps. Got a whole collection of those but that is for another post. Anyway, I went out in  search of a center speaker and didn't see anything that looked very exciting until I chanced accross VMPS. A true ribbon mid, that has to make clear and coherent mids. Free Swinging Tweeter, that sounds like a good idea. What I didn't expect was tight and punchy bass! Wow, I can turn the LFE crossover down to 40 Hz for this thing and just use the SV subs for 16-40 Hz. I wish I had known about VMPS before I got the other subs but they do make good end tables/drink mixers. Well, now I have to dig into the piggy bank and replace the whimpy Athena mains. All my financial adviser (she who must be obeyed) will let me cut loose with is enough for RM2 with FST and maybe TRT upgrades. I'd love to go for the 30's but me and the cat would have to spend the rest of the winter on the couch. Next winter I'll replace the surrounds with FST/TRT upgraded 626R and Dipole Surrounds. I didn't get the TRT on the LRC but I'm hoping that this would be field upgradable. Well, I give my highest recomendations to Brian and VMPS. He was most patient with all my questions and the product delivered beyond expectations. The LRC keeps sounding more liquid as it breaks in. I can almost ignore the crappy sounding Athenas until they hit one of those chalk board notes...

Sounds like a great tale, and you came to the right place to tell it.

Thing about VMPS tales though, they have more than one "happy ending".

You'll have a few more as the VMPS virus invades the rest of your system.

You'll be lucky if you don't get a dose of the dreaded "Trinaural", or at least a mild case of "Ampzilla"

Welcome to the VMPS forum.

Man does this sound familiar!  I bought a LRC for center duty and that would be it. Just for movies. I was happy with my old speakers for music. Then pushed my mains to the back when I bought my RM2's... The RM2's just went to the back 'cause I bought RM30's for the the mains. Each move was a huge improvment. Let's see if you can hold out better than I did

VMPS 12 step program

I can see it now, a VMPS 12 step program   . Well, it is going to take me about 12 steps to get my system all upgraded. Before it is all done, I'm sure that there will be new amps, audio sources and a second mortgage involved. Prepare to be amazed. The good news is that the LRC is more efficient than my mains so it over powers them. The only time I am aware of the mains now is when the tweeters make a squeaky scratchy noise. I used to think they sounded pretty good but now, they suck! I was listening to some classical guitar recently and was amazed at the rich texture of the sound. It is incredible what happens when all the drivers in your speaker are actually in phase. I cuould actually feel the plucking of the strings. I never expected that, I don't know what kind of voodoo they used on the bass drivers in that thing but it worked. Very punchy and tight. Usually when you get that kind of sound out of a speaker, it is dampened so much that it takes enough watts to warm your house to drive it. Well, go ahead and notify your banker...

Enjoy!

In my opinion, nothing does unamplified guitar as well as VMPS...

Depends on how you like your distortion effects!

Well, I had occasion to hear some nice old tube amped guitar over my new friend the LRC/FST. Sweeet. Friendly fuzz not gnarley crunch. Mmmm, trebles that don't hurt your ear. This thing is just melting into the room. I'm only aware of it when the other speakers fuzz, squak, screech or just fall off the frequencey response curve. Way to go VMPS!
