PW-1's are an amazing value!  I've lived with second hand purchased Stellavox PW-1 mono amps for a couple of weeks now.  Using the same Job 4 circuitry found in Goldmund amps, they're very VERY quick and sound great on my Avalon Monitors as well as Focus Audio fs688's.  Bass is snuggly controlled, highs snap sharply & voices engage me with their unique timbre.
There's very little discussion of these puppies, and no PW-1 reviews I've been able to locate.  I'm wondering:
1) Why these are not more popular @ $2800 new/pair, less used?
2) What's your experience been with these?
If you haven't heard the Stellavox PW-1 amps, you owe it to your ears & pocketbook to check them out.  I am in no way connected to Stellavox, other than being a satisfied customer smiling ear-to-ear.

I've not heard them myself, but I have a friend whose ears I trust who had them quite happily for some time.

Hi I had the PW-1s hooked to my Von Schweikert VR5s HSE . Truly amazing little mono's. They handled the VR5s without breaking a sweat. My guess would be that there size scares off potencial buyers and Goldmund who owns Stellavox does not advertise this line.

Is it a mano/masculine need to have a large amp?

Size has no relationship to quality.  The trend in quality preamps is to simplify.  It's a shame that individuals buy into the consumerism thing of "big is better".  It seems that there are many audio & visual benefits to smaller, less 'macho looking' electronics- like the PW-1's.

Rowland is downsizing his amp chasis too. I hope others follow.
