Has anyone tried one or more of those "degaussing" CDs from Densen, Ayre/Cardas, or others?  If so, any thoughts on their effect?

I've used the Densen for about 6 years.  After about a week without using it, it does slightly clean up the sound when you put it in.  It's just a slightly more liquid, grain free sound.  It's no revelation, but you can hear it.

Glad to hear it works for you.  On a whim, I got the Ayre/Cardas disc and tried it this afternoon.  It does seem to improve things...since this was my first time doing it, I am assuming that it will clear things up more than when I try it again next week (instead of a year of magnetic build up that I apparently cleared today, it will only be a week's worth).  I was skeptical before I tried it...and now just wanted to check my sanity against others who have tried it...

Reading about the Densen disc, what does the signal sound like?  The Ayre/Cardas disc just uses a single frequency sweep from something very low to something very high over the course of 5 minutes (they are not specific regarding the actual frequency range, but I'd suspect it's 10hz to 22khz)....

Eh...I think music has a higher range, but that's the range a CD is capable of producing (maybe only up to 20khz..)  :P

The Densen sounds terrible.  I need to leave the apartment, as it sounds like it is killing the system.  It's probably more midrange and treble oriented, if you want to break it down by HZ.  I wouldn't pay more than $20-30 for the Densen personally- I don't know what they are charging for it.

The Densen and Ayre/Cardas discs are selling for $20 each.  I've seen a couple of others (Sheffield Labs, etc) that go for a lot more.

As I've listened to my system more since running the degaussing track, I'm actually pretty impressed with the effects.  Things were sounding significantly better last night...wasn't sure if that was more because of the "late night effect", but I've thrown on a bunch of tracks this morning and its still sounding improved.

I have the MDMS disc from Sheffield labs that someone gave me. I am going to try it soon. Has anyone tried this disc?

Eric,

Haven't tried the Sheffield disc.  I did just try the Densen disc (about 2 weeks after the Ayre/Cardas disc)...it definitely did something, although not as dramatic as the Ayre/Cardas.  It might have something to do with the fact that I did the Ayre/Cardas one never having degaussed my system before and the Densen after only 2 weeks of playing.  Either way, I'm convinced that they do something.  Let us know how the Sheffield disc works for you...
