greatings from Pittsburgh
« on: 22 Jan 2017, 04:14 pm »
Just wanted to introduce my self..... long, long time audiophile (read old lol) Currently going through a major up grade to my HT, heavily emphasis on music, system...

the best laid plans etc.... upgrade priorities changed when my vintage Sunfire 200 x 5  suddenly started sounding terrible and with serious hum two weeks ago... Replaced it with a Krell S1500.. wow what a huge difference. Better in every way than the Sunfire ever sounded.  Currently on the search for a new phono pre in the $2500 ish range. Then it will be new / new to me main L/R speakers.

I look forward to learning from the group. Thanks for letting me join    Jim Pittsburgh

Welcome Jim,
Sorry to hear about the Sunfire but you can probably get a decent buck for it as is if you drop a post on the CarverSite.

Welcome Jim!

Its been my recent experience that the typical age for the traditional audiophile is "one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel".  This hobby definitely trends toward old farts, but the recent resurgence of vinyl, headphones and the advent of high quality streaming have all brought a lot of younger hobbyists into the fold.

I envy your budget; $2,500 for a phono preamp can buy you something great!  There is an Allnic phono stage on Audiogon right now.
