The Expanse - Space noir done right

Ready for a space adventure? The Expanse is the real deal, set 200 years in the future The Expanse has it all:
Hard boiled detective - check
Mysterious woman - check
Martian warship - check
Political intrigue - check
Moody lighting - check
Fantastic set design and space ships - check
Action - check

The Expanse also requires your undivided attention, a lot goes by real fast - which also means this is a thinking persons science fiction. The viewer learns facts as the main characters do, nothing is laid out in an orderly fashion and you will never be ahead of the plot. Surprises are always happening, and not in a good way (think Tarantino), living is space is very dangerous and unforgiving.

The 10 episode series is light years ahead of the Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, nothing in The Expanse is by the numbers film making. If Season 2 (January) is just as good then Battlestar Galactica will have a worthy successor.

Season 2 isn't going to be here until 2017... and the season 1 was painfully short.

I like it, but why the hell couldn't I discover it after 4 or 5 seasons were out?

It was very good.  Up there with the best in a long while (BSG).  I hear the books are even better.

When they perfect virtual reality to the point where we can live there, I plan on living in a reality based on The Expanse where I get to play Detective Miller.

Agreed. Great series! And I agree with the OP statement about some things going by real fast and learning facts as the characters do. This does make it a little hard to follow at times, just in the sense that I would periodically think I missed something. Not a show to let your mind wonder while relaxing on the sofa.

Good comparison to Battlestar Galactica. Not quite the same of course but boy!, was that the best or what? Watched BSG in real time (one ep. a week) for the entire duration. Wow, what a show! But comparing The Expanse to The new StarWars is like comparing Alien to Space Balls   StarWars is a "for the whole family" franchise at this point. The Expanse is definitly for adults...

The books are a fun read.  I just started book 5.  Highly recommended.

The Syfy TV production was enjoyable but did move pretty quickly.  Even with 10 episodes, the first season didn't even get through the first book.

I started  to rewatch the first episode, but had to stop. I was drinking water with dinner and felt uncomfortable.

It really is a good show.

I'm reading the 6th book in the series and the protomolecule still has a 2 billion year head start on us, this is cool stuff.

Excellent show.  Been looking forward to it.  It's a shame that you have to wait a year between the short seasons.

Well that means you can re-watch the season in no time!

Or read the books..the first chapter of the first book is incredible.  Trivia: the "author" James S. A. Corey is actually 2 people.

So glad I saw this thread. Just starting episode 5 and am loving this show. Nothing will ever replace Battlestar Galactica, but this is damn good. Thanks!
