I enjoyed this horror flick. It's very different . It's a slow burn for sure.
8 out 10 stars.

I very much wanted to love it but it didn't really work for me.  Overall the visuals were great and the acting was superb.  Still, I had some issues.  First the music was anachronistic and didn't really fit the film.  I also was annoyed by the mother; she basically played the same character in GoT. She risks being typecast as the shrill psycho woman if she keeps this up.  I also think they blew the suspense very early on in the film and gave too much away.  Lastly the ending just didn't work for me. After the events of the film I can't imagine Thomasin doing what she did, especially given her love of her brother Caleb.

But the casting was great.  Anya Taylor-Joy in particular seems poised to become a major star (check out her role in the overlooked gem Morgan).  Harvey Scrimshaw is also very good as Caleb.

Again, I really wanted to like it more than I did but it didn't completely connect.  Maybe I'll have to watch it again.  Black William was certainly eerie!
