Question about Crestron CNAMPX 200x7 Amplifiers
« on: 7 Oct 2016, 05:30 pm »
I am considering buying a Crestron CNAMPX amplifier, I have been reading up on these amplifiers and some websites say you need to buy Crestron power supply that is a separate box from the main unit. The manual says it needs a dedicated 20 AMP line but I am not sure what to believe. I don't want to buy an amplifier only to have to spend another 300 on a power supply. If you have any information on this I would really appreciate some help! Thanks

Benjamin

PS-Here is a link to the manual if that will help:

Well all I did was scan the manual for inputs and power requirements.

Provides AC operating power to the CNAMPX-7X200. The connector is a 20 Amp IEC connector. U.S. models require a dedicated 20-Amp line and receptacle. Use only the supplied power cord, or equivalent, to connect to the AC power source.

This is a discontinued model if that means anything to you.  You might check with some of the AV boards as you will find folks there that have dealt with this unit I would guess.

They might be referring to a POWER CONDITIONER with some surge attributes as that is the cheep insurance and usually better sound.

Good luck Alan

You can use a Crestron amplifier stand-alone without connection to a Crestnet network, but 24VDC from an external supply still needs to be connected to the network connector so that the override switch will power the relays to turn on the amplifier channels on (think of it as a mandatory "24V trigger").

I don't know that it has to specifically be a 24VDC Crestron supply though, and the total VA of the power supply can be small as you won't be using it to power control units, touchpads, keypads, etc. on the network, but you would need a properly wired 4-pin Crestnet (Phoenix type) plug from the power supply to mate with the rear panel network connector in any case.

The 24V supply would have to be energized full time otherwise the recessed rear panel override switch would have to be depressed each time it was powered on or if it inadvertently lost power.

Thank so much guys, I think I will look elsewhere for an amplifier, perhaps the Aragon 2007 that is out on ebay right now. I just want simple and jury rigging things to work is something I royally suck at. Thanks again
