B135 with Mini A or T?
« on: 5 Oct 2016, 07:38 pm »
Does anyone have experience running the Mini T's with a B135? I'm wondering if it's sufficient to drive the (almost) full range of the Mini T, or if it would be better to pair with the Mini As and handing off the low frequencies to a subwoofer with a dedicated amplifier.

The room I use is 13' x 22 ' x 8', nominally, and the speakers must sit along the long wall due to the location of the room entrance and patio doors. It results in my current speakers about 3-4' into the room, and my listening position against the opposite wall.

Thanks for any opinions.

I started with the Mini T's and B135 and found them to be a great match, in fact i think if you look at the Mini T's recommended power rating and what the B135 produces into 4ohms (the Mini T's rating) that they are matched pretty well.

That's a good size room.

No disrespect to Bryston but maybe look at something like the ProAc Response D20R or D30R instead.  The have a small footprint but their bass is very satisfying and may result in you not needing a subwoofer.  Plus their downward firing port makes them very easy to place and you'd be able to get them closer to the wall behind them (less into the room).

Hi Marty

I have a number of customers using the 135 and even have 2 customers in NY using a 135 with a pair of Model T's.  Granted they are in a a normal 12 x 18 type room but they tell me they are very happy with the system.

The Mini T's are flat anechoically to 32 Hz and in fact if you look at the reviews on the Mini T's they always comment on the exceptional bass response of the Mini T's. So I do not think you would need a sub in that size of room. The Mini A's do well at low frequencies as well but can not go as deep as the Mini T's.  Integrating a sub is not an easy task so the Mini T's are the better option. Also smaller speakers are less efficient than larger speakers typically so it is easier to drive the Mini T's with the B135 than the Mini A's.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the responses and advice. I'm pleased to hear that the B135 should be able to handle the Mini T's well. I hadn't noticed they were 4 ohms.

The room is large but 1/3 of it is non-usable, so the speakers sit about 5-6 feet from the west wall as the patio door and room entrance span the first 7 feet from the east wall. So it is a good size room, but only partially usable. The other unfortunate feature is a 7 foot wide brick fireplace that's installed on the diagonal of from the west to the south wall.

I was under the assumption a subwoofer would probably not be necessary with the Mini Ts, and I did worry about integrating it correctly. I'd think it would be essential for the Mini As.

I had considered looking into ProAc (and PMC), but the dealership network is limited.
