Tidal- is there a way to setup preferences.....

... and improve/optimize the listening experience?

I am new to Tidal and I am tired of seeing the Rap/Hiphop recommendations.

(other than going thru genre selection)

Hi, nocrapman.

I hope someone comes up with an idea because the daily barrage of (to me) unwanted music recommendations is irritating. I have managed to mentally tune it off, but it's always there. You'd think the creators might consider giving its users the option if adapting it to their music preferences.

On another note...

I like my Tidal subscription and don't want it to go belly up. Where will I go if it goes bankrupt?

The ugly cover art (Usher Hard II love/exhibit one) - is usually repelling but this one was particularly disgusting...
Now even I dont want to listen to this garbage selling as music these days (signs of getting old) - I am subjected to it in the gym 3x times a week with their top hits playlist.

Even tidal goes away - something else will replace it. This is where the music industry is going. As storage capacities become cheap on the igadgets, mp3s (hopefully and other compressed formats) will disappear. The cameras keep getting better and richer in pixels- I am hoping this will follow suit.

In addition, I continue buying CDs of what I really like. And when I get the itch a few times a year, purchase some HDtracks for variety and support (even though I cant hear much of any difference in the 4 different rigs in the house.

Have you tried using Favorites? I don't have a current Tidal subscription but when I did I just added artists I like and browsed their catalogs.

John,

Thats exactly what I am doing....
Very painfully slow since I am just starting. Should get better....
Also still have spotify - their playlists and selections are much better and well curated.

Hope tidal catches up.

Tidal is losing a ton of money. It is an exceptionally ill-designed service, from the abysmal cataloging to the lack of user friendliness. The latter includes, as you have found out, no way of specifying musical preferences for the home screens, even in terms of broad genres.

Typical are the stupid track titles for classical music. There are many track titles like "I. Allegro" where there is no way of telling, even from the album cover, what composer wrote the work or what work it is.

It would be nice if a music service were designed with some knowledge of and interest in music, beyond the consumer type.

I'd hate to see them go. They've saved me a ton of money and the CD quality streaming is better than anyone else.  I've never searched for anything and didn't find it. It works for me.

I too will gladly pay for access to a huge selection of lossless music, but Tidal seems biased towards the kinds of "music" I hear booming from cars driven by gangsta wannabes.... can they really afford $240/year to listen in? More than once I've contemplated a subscription, but going to their home page and seeing what they feature and promote for new releases has been a huge turn-off and I'm sticking with (lossy) Spotify for now.

I'm wondering how much market research Tidal conducted before settling on their image. I know it was founded by some cash-rich hip-hop types, but I'm betting the typical consumer for the service is an over 40 audiophile with a high-end system, disposable income and music preferences that do not include rap. I'm hoping new lossless music services are on their way that will either force Tidal to clean up its sleazy image or run right over them.

On the other hand, maybe I'm the one who's out of touch (I'm getting up there in years) and Tidal's image is just what appeals to the audiophiles with $20 a month to spend on this service!
