There's this M25 compression driver mentioned on their site, has anyone heard it or has them in their Spatials?  I also have a pair of Quads (988) and comparing the speakers I gather the M4's are less refined in the high frequencies.... maybe changing the tweeter caps would be enough. BTW, in my system the M4's do a lot of things better than the Quads.

Manolo, What parameters do the Spatials do better than the Quads?

In my sytem's context which includes a fairly small room (12'x11') and a low powered amp. (First Watt F4) the main difference is in soundstage and instrument size which the Spatials do better. Also because they are OB depth perception is more believelable. The Quads offer smaller soundstage.  Their soundstage is entirely behind them which is kind of cool, which I guess has to do with the room and my close proximity.

The Quad's high frequencies are more defined and refined in my view, female sibilance is controlled better and I perceive more air. Soundstage and instrument size is affected by the low watt amplifier which is suited better for the Spatials, and of course the small room size. I have tried a few higher powered amps lent to me with the Quads and these resolve the soundstage and instrument size issues. Microdetails in the Q's are more evident at lower volumes.

Bass response with the Q's is stronger, deeper and better defined. I've read some posts saying that the Quad 63 iterations do not do bass too well and I believe they do pretty well in that respect, at least in smaller rooms.

I do enjoy both speakers and are rotated regularly. And, the Spatials look much better in the room. So both speakers are very musical taking into consideration their different designs. So if anyone has the M25 tweeter option I would like to hear from him. Thanks.

I have a pair of Spatial Turbo M2's.  When I inquired about upgrading the tweeter to the new one in the M3/M4's, I was told by the factory it was a no-go because the crossover would be wrong.  Good luck, but that's the last I heard on the subject.  Cordially,

Not cheap, but probably the present world's best tweeters, Vaughn's plasma tweeters.

If one buys the M3 Turbo S you then have the M25 compression driver.  I have it and think it's stellar!

There are one or two people on these threads that have upgraded the tweeters to the M25......they mentioned better sound as a result.  Please call Spatial to find out how much the upgrade would cost.  Of course, you can use even more expensive and better sounding xover parts and wire than what Spatial uses with the M25.  You could mount these in a separate box behind the speakers and hardwire directly to the drivers.  However, you have to match the sound of the xover parts to the speakers......not an easy task.  Better left to those crazy tweakers among us.  If you do upgrade to M25 you will have to burn in the new tweeter and xover to make them sound best.....ie...play them loud for many hours again.  Hopefully, you already have burned in your current speakers playing loud for hundreds of hours because they will get better in the treble with burn in as well...it is not just the surround on the woofer that breaks in.  Several have reported better treble after burn in.

Yep, got the same response in regard to the "S" tweeter / M2 Turbo.  Clayton said going to the "S" tweeter would not be possible on a couple of different fronts. The x-over being one of course. Not sure if the same limitations apply to the M4, but the x-over would certainly have to be tweaked. Either way, the answer is to talk to Clayton if you haven't already.
