Electric Unicycles ... Anyone?
« on: 15 Apr 2016, 01:50 am »
So we're about to purchase a home which is 3.5 miles from the center of downtown, where I wish to frequently visit. I love walking, and 3.5 miles takes me one hour, but when I get there I want to walk around and hang out, then I need to get home as well. 7+ miles per day might prove to be a little much for me so am considering alternate modes of transportation. A bike would work but there is a high probability it would be stolen wherever parked. So I was considering maybe one of these (Ninebot One E+ One Wheel Self-balancing Unicycle, 120w, $865.95):

Any experience?
Thoughts?
Recommendations?

Do not wear the Go Pro Camera until you are experienced on the unit :no_see:

I am guessing the thought is to take it in to the building and the size would make that easier?

I think I want one.

Miles per battery charge?  Someone might want to steal it too?
Like the idea regardless.   :thumb:

That looks like fun. Watched a youtube video and it looks like there is some learning required before mastering

What about a folding bike instead to bring inside?

Or just get used crappy looking bike purchased cheap. Upgrade the seat to something comfortable but make sure it looks unattractive. Also upgrade or look over the drive train (chain, etc) to make sure it runs smooth. If branded, remove stickers. Replace all fast connectors for the wheels, etc.  That's what I used to do when biking in big cities in Europe. If stolen it's not too bad and you may even get out a new one from your insurance.

On the other hand, something electronic looks like fun though. Il

I see one of these around this town. The user looks very relaxed and smooth as he maneuvers around pedestrians on the sidewalk, so I guess with practice it is do-able. Certainly, security would be simpler. You might get tired of answering the inevitable queries, though!

How about a Razor scooter or skateboard? $50 and you'll get exercise. Or you could buy an $80 bike at Walmart and hope that b'strds that steal it don't sue you when it breaks while they are riding away with it.

If it's that rough of a neighborhood I am not sure I want to be going there with something cool.
