Anyone have experience with the Rolls RA200?
« on: 17 May 2016, 06:23 pm »
I've recently started looking into Pro Audio gear for home use.  They seem to offer more watts for less $$$ than traditional HiFi brands.  One particular model that caught my eye was the Rolls RA200 100 Watt Power Amplifier.  The amp utilizes MOSFET output stage, which I know can sound great when done correctly.  My speakers are 92db fulrange drivers and the amp will do about 70WPC into 8ohms so I should have enough headroom.  Unfortunately I haven't seen any discussions or reviews for this amp or others made by Rolls.  Hoping someone here has some experience with the Brand and where they stand in comparison to Crown and other well represented brands.

Thanks!

Haven't heard of that brand, but many cheaper professional amps are known for noisy fans, questionable sound quality, and very iffy build quality/reliability.  Even the Crown amps are very light weight and have a fan (but no serious complaints).

Professional amps are used for sound reinforcement of larger venues, so sound quality is normally of secondary concern and don't get a lot of attention.

Check out soundonsound.com for good reviews of professional gear, including amps.

Thanks for the tip.

I've seen several debates between folks about pro vs. consumer hifi gear.  Some retailers offer 60 day trials so I can always return something if it doesn't sound good.  The specs. on it look good so I might take a blind leap!
