Can someone help me with my office system?

Something is going on with it, and it's really getting to me.

I had some Monsoons at the office, and I was plugging my XM receiver directly into them.  Well. . . They blew up, and I bought some Altec Lansing 2100's.

I now have a horrible high pitched buzz when I am plugged into XM.  It's not loud, and it doesn't get louder, or softer.  But it is very irritating!  When I pull the miniplug out of the XM, I don't get it.  UNTIL I touch the metal part of the mini plug.  Then it comes right back.

So what can I do about it?

Any ideas?

Thanks!

My WAG would be that the audio ouput stage (ampliifier) of your XM reciever is faulty. Your description of a whine after touching the plug seems to indicate that the extra capacitance (your finger) is causing oscillation, and your self destructing Monsoon's also would indicate the same.

The best, and practical fix would be replacing the dang thing, hoping it is still under warranty, as I assume the reciever is all SMT chips which are impractical to rework for a product at that price point.

Thanks for the replies fellas.

Nothing has worked so far.  But I have a suspicion that it IS power related.  I didn't remember until I was troubleshooting it this afternoon that this thing is sitting in a car cradle.  This means I am powering it with a 12VDC lighter adapter, plugged into a RadShack AC/DC converter.  That in itself can't be good.  I guess I'll have to try and get another cradle.

Thanks!
