SOLD!
Stunning pair of AES Sixpacs.  I'm rating them 8/10 but look at the pics, they are in superb condition inside and out.  Sound is pristine triode.  Clean, clear, dimensional without a hint of grain or glare.  50 watts per channel but they sound much stronger.  Single ended and balanced inputs.  The balanced inputs are true balanced.

The fellow I bought these from spent one year rebuilding them.  During that process he was on the phone frequently with a Cary tech and Dennis Had.  The rebuild did not change the circuit only the parts.  Circuit is exactly as Dennis originally designed.  These amps are built like little tanks.  With the rebuilt they are good for many, many years to come.

Tubes included are two matched sextets of Electro Harmonix 6CA7EH with about 500-600 hours on them. A pair of Amperex EL84 labeled Zenith and a pair of old stock RCA 12BZ7.  The EL84s and the 12BZ7s tested NOS when I bought them and I have put about 200-300 hours on them. I think I have a spare pair of EL84s and 12BZ7s that I will include.

I am only selling because I purchased a pair of Quicksilver V4s.

Here's what's been done:

-Both binding posts were changed to the Cardas long Copper/Rhodium long binding posts.
-The 8 ohm 4 ohm selector switch was removed and replaced by a Cardas binding post so that the output transformer wires are soldered directly to the binding posts.
-The AC power inlet was replaced by a Furutech copper/gold plated inlet.
-Bias adjustment knob nut and washer was replaced with gold plated parts. In addition, a gold plated brass knob by Audio Note was added. The knob is secured so as to prevent accidental turning after Bias has been set.
-RCA jack replaced with a WBT 0201 RCA female chassis mount jack
-¼” Bias Jack nut and washer replaced with gold plated units.
-XLR socket replaced with a Cardas CM F XLR.
-The red LED indicator light was replaced by a blue one.
-The “feedback” selector switch wires were removed
Internal Modifications:
-Coaxial input wire on the RCA and XLR connector replaced with VH Audio Pulsar 24 gauge solid silver Coax.
-All 0.1 uF caps replaced with V-Cap TFTF series Teflon® Film and Tin Foil capacitors
-1 uF Cap replaced with Mundorf Silver Oil Supreme
-1 Mundorf M-Lytic AG Series electrolytic cap
-Two electrolytic caps replaced with Dueland caps
-2.0 uF bypass cap in power supply replaced with a higher grade Solen SE part.
-The two carbon 56K resistors replaced with AMRG brand resistors
-Internal AC wire replaced with 16 gauge Neotech brand Solid core UPOCC Copper in Teflon.
-Removed the diodes and built a new Fairchild Stealth board.
-All input resistors replaced with Vishay naked" Z-FOIL resistors and Caddock MK 132 resistors are on the ground connections.
-Replaced the two Jenson .22 uf caps with Duelund Alexander caps.
-Cardas solder used throughout, all connections including tube sockets cleaned with ProGold contact cleaner. All solder joints inspected and repaired as needed.

I have the original boxes and better than original packing.  They will be triple boxed for shipping.
I will ship to CONUS only by FedEx Ground with full insurance and tracking number provided.

Asking $1800 $1675 obo. I'll split the shipping and cover Paypal.

Please PM or email with any questions.
Thanks for looking.

Wowsa! Those look killer. I loved my SixPacs. For those who haven't been acquainted with these before, they are freakishly heavy. If you judge these amps by weight alone, you'll be impressed. I'd love to hear these all tricked- out. Good luck with the sale!

How is biased adjusted on the amp?   Is each tube individually biased?

Chris Adams

There is one bias adjustment for all the tubes.

These have just sold.
