New system - Decware, Audio GD, Omega
« on: 28 Feb 2016, 10:07 pm »
Pretty excited about my new system - Mini Torii 3, Audio GD DAC-19 Anniversary Edition and Omega 3XRS speakers (not pictured).  Although, it can sound a bit harsh at times, I have no room treatment and I wonder if it will settle in over the next month or so. Overall though, I enjoy the way this sounds. I have been tempted to try different tubes, but I am at a loss as to which ones would have the greatest impact and improve the sound.  Here's a photo of the simple setup.  I had to place this on a fairly high cupboard out of reach of small hands.

Hey great looking system,  I love Audio Gd dacs...they are great! and the mini torii is just sweet looking and great sounding amp to boot.  I know when I had mine it took a little while to settle down and I changed my OA3 tubes to some nos RCA ones and that for me made a cheap and nice boost in sound for the less harsh sounding, then I had swapped out the output tubes next for the next nice improvement in sound sorry dont remember which ones.  If you have time you can venture over to the decware forums and they have a whole thread to the mini torii and in there are some threads about tubes and the effect it had on the sound.

I would suggest give the setup sometime to burn in and then start experimenting with tube rolling, though I never could wait personally lol.

Anyways great looking system I plan to get the audio gd dac19 in another month or so,  I have been eyeing it for sometime now.

Have a great day

Thanks for the advise. It's tough being patient.  I also should mention that I purchased the Decware power cord, and Silver reference interconnects. My speaker cables are some rather inexpensive Blue Jean cabling.  I'll certainly check the forum for additional tube rolling options.

Thx.

The biggest change to my Mini-tori came from input tubes. The 12au7s. I have tried RCA, Mullard and Mazda. The Mazda (Cifte in my case) made an ENORMOUS difference. Bigger than any other change. The Mullard are great but the Mazda were a whole other level. Paired with RCA 6V6 output tubes and you have taken your amp to another planet.

Your mileage might vary, but I can't imagine using the stock tubes anymore. Using the amp with either 3XRS or Blumenstein Orca/Dungeness.

Paired with a ZP3 with Amperex 12ax7 with an Ortofon Bronze on Project table, I've never had a better sounding setup.

Using Bluejean speaker cables too and Decware interconnects (not silver though). Thinking of upgrading the speaker cables.
