Will someone please explain what exactly does a demagnetizer do in a CD drive?

Don't you know anything???  ;-)

I don't demagnitize or use a lathe on my CDs (wasn't even aware of the lathe technique - thanks for the info). However, I do use Hebie's CD Grungebuster, and my 15 y.o. can hear the positive difference when the mat is in use. I believe the mat is supposed to dampen vibrations, and negate laser issues. With the latter point, perhaps there'd be no need to use the green pen technique if you use the Herbie's Grungebuster. Link to this product is: http://herbiesaudiolab.home.att.net/ttmat.htm. Note that the link seems to bring up a TT mat, but I tested/visited it, and it is the GrungeBuster. FYI - there's a version for regular and top-loading cds.

Enjoy the music.  :D

This is good news.  Now instead of bulky metal magnets on speaker drivers we can use the same polycarbonate used in compact discs instead.  That should save a lot of weight!  Plus it will look cooler.  But there will be drawbacks, should your plastic magnets become demagnetized you may have to periodically rub a balloon on them, then you're back in business.

No one knows.  I've heard various theories.  Some say demagnetizing helps b/c the ink used on CD label can retain charge, which can "confuse" the digital reading by laser.  I've heard several other equally weird theories.

What I do know is these devices do change the sound a little bit.  I have both Bedini Ultra Clarifier and Furutech RD-2 device, and they do change the sound a little, and each make different changes from each other.  Sometimes, a certain CD can sound worse after "treatment."

These da ...

Aluminium is thought of as a metal with least magnetic properties which is in common use and is not too expensive. That's why high end people make their cases of aluminium, to reduce eddy currents.

Now, throwing that material, albeit covered with some plasticky goo on both sides, into a strong concentrated magnetic field is not supposed to have much effect by default?

And if that plasticky goo has picked up some static, a simple rinse with tap water will get rid of it. Wipe dry with some soft cotton cloth.

Nope, sorry, I stilll don't see it. I think I'll stick with classic white magic spells and debauchery.

It took Hans-Martin to teach you to wrap the chicken in aluminium foil before putting it in the hot oven?

Holy smoke, compadre, I thought you knew that!

Did he remember to tell you to include one carrot and a peeled onion? MUCH better! Add a topless waitress serving it and you're really swingin'! Oh yeah!

Duh ...

Gee, I dunno 'bout that, but you wanna see the effects of giving it to your chick, an' when you turn it on, you know, it humms and vibrates, and man, does she LOVE IT or what!

Better than zen, lemme tell ya!

Those guys that hear a difference with the Auric and the Bedini should go to www.randi.org and win themselves a million bucks. A while back he challenged a bunch of reviewers who endorsed Shakti stones to claim his million but they have been strangely silent. They endorse a product but won't back it up. One guy had $6000 worth of Shakti in his system. Their opinions are worthless when they won't take the million dollar challenge.

I love this kind of products: Auric works terrific, also a claener from Switzerland www.audiotop.ch, it makes some of the work of the Auric.

I am just about to try Herbies' accessories, the Grungebuster and I am trying to get a Bedini or RadioShack demagnetizer.

About that Randi guy, yes shure trust that guy who only shows what is ok for him, his position is quite simple he is ok while you are wrong, so it is not a real hard task tyo make peple fail over his planned and own method.

In a way he is like if in 1750 trying to measure electricity with a baromether, for what he attempts to meassure he must find first the right tools and not just statistical analysis.
