looking for a budget drive and soundcard

Hey guys,
I'm having issues with my cd drive at work and figured since I'm in there I might as well upgrade the sound card and dampen some surfaces. Can anyone suggest a decent internal drive and sound card? I saw the dialog with all the top shelf stuff but I'm looking at spending under 150.00 or so. For reference I'm using the humble but loved tripath and some B&W bookshelf clones that are surprisingly nice. I'll soon upgrade the IC for a zu pivot.
thanks,
beat

Highest quality DVD burners (Plextor etc.) are priced under $100 these days...

emu soundcard is under $100 and seems to be well liked in the production world. I happen to like Pioneer dvd burners that might work for you too.

I agree with jqp.  The Plextor PX-712A is the best DVD+/-R/RW CDr burner out there for less than $100!  The 712A has the highest quality and it is one of the fastest DVD burner out there that can burn 8x on a 4x media.  A good soundcard is Creative SB Audigy 2.  You can also go with Onkyo soundcard (not available in US).

Within $150....

Cards -
EMU 0404 - $90-100.
Chaintech Av710 - $25 if you're using digital out.

Then for a drive, for most quiet, go to http://www.silentpcreview.com/ and read the articles and forums...  For the cheapest, go to www.fatwallet.com/forums and search for CD, CDR, DVD, DVDR, DVD-R, etc.

beat,
don't you have a NEC Multi-spin external drive that you used for tunes???
Why not hook that up???   (I was going to do the same thing recently, but couldn't figure out the right patch cord to use.)
