« on: 24 Jan 2016, 01:10 pm »
Good Morning,
I need help with a Cabinet for a speaker project, in fact my first speaker Assemble/Build. Im a newbie an im kind worry, but seem that the LGk crossover is simple enough to assemble.. Does anyone know a Member who has the time to make a pair of cabinets? Thanks

I will offer a little piece of advice:  find a local cabinet builder to make them for you.  There have been a number of online speaker builders (including AC members) who get in over their heads and end up taking the money and running.  Several of us have gotten burned.

The LGK's have good plans available.  Don't expect custom enclosures to be cheap though.

Roscoe is correct about some problems with a couple of people. However, there are many of us who have bought flat packs from a couple different guys. I can think of four people in the lower 48 and one person in British Columbia who I wouldn't hesitate to send money to if I needed a flat pack (assuming they were willing to make one). All five are AC members.

Ron
Mlundy - Mike

Ron and Mike have a lot of history here and have built many of Danny's speakers. They both do excellent work.
Pecker -   http://www.diyspeakercabinets.com  My Adelphos speaker cabinets were cut, assembled, and veneered by John. He charged me a very reasonable amount for my cabinets. I have nothing but great things to say about him.

Ben - Ben's website is called 'subassemble.com', but it is currently inactive. I do not know what's up.

Captainhemo lives in British Columbia; his real name is Jay. He does excellent work. How trustworthy is he? Well, the first time I met him, I handed my AVA 240/3 amplifier and something like $5000 USD worth of cables to him after chatting with him for 15 minutes. I didn't see him again for three days. All kinds of bad things could have happened with the wrong person, but he cared for them as if they were his own children because Jay is that kind of guy.

This is all just my opinion, but I'll wager there are a hundred guys here who will say something similar about these guys.

Regards,

Michael

The filter, which is to compensate for baffle step loss, is very easy to assemble. Here is what mine look like:

If you pre-drill the holes for the screws and glue your stand-offs on after you build the boards, mounting the filters will be much easier.

Since you already have a pair of cabinets that only need minimal work opening up the holes (I find a Dremel works well for this, especially with a flex shaft) you could go ahead and build out the speakers so you can listen to them while getting a new set of cabinets made.

If you do, just tack solder the hookup wire to the tube connectors (don't crimp them) then just barely insert the tube connectors into the holes. If you push the connectors in too far, you won't be able to get them back out when you get your new cabinets. Or you could not use the tube connectors at all on the temporary cabinets and just use an alligator clip to connect the speaker wires.

While I could build a pair of cabinets for you, I don't make flatpacks. With my equipment, I can't cut pieces precise and consistent enough to guarantee that they would glue up perfectly flush and square every time. So I purposely cut most pieces a little oversize then, after they are glued up, I flush trim for a perfect fit.

We do have cabinets in stock for those. For just $38 more you can get the kit with cabinets.

Sold separately they are only $29 each.
