Best Speaker Stans Ever (BSSE) Question
« on: 9 Jan 2016, 08:57 pm »
I am finishing up the X-CS Encores for my step daughter and recently found out I need to provide speaker stands for them. I was also planning on building a dual driver version of the X-Sub for her.

I'm thinking of killing two birds with one stone and building a pair of the BSSE stands but using two of the 8" AV123 X-Sub drivers and a Yung 300 watt plate amp with a 6dB boost at 30Hz per stand (I have these drivers and amps on hand).

My questions are whether this would work since the stands were designed for use with the servo 8" drivers and HX300 amps and if so, what kind of low end extension I could expect?

Well, keep in mind that the parameters of the 8" servo woofers and with the additional of the servo control make them ideal for open baffle applications.

The X-Sub needs a small air space.

I thought the BSSE was a ported sub not an open baffle sub. Since the X-sub is also a ported sub it seems like the BSSE stand would work but the tuning frequency might not be 28Hz like it is in the X-sub cabinet.

The open backed baffle of the stand would tune it really high.

OK, thanks. I take it these stands would use the 8 Ohm non-OB version of the 8" drivers and the HX 300 amp without the shelving circuit, correct?

No for the BSSE I used the 16 ohm FR woofers with the HX300 and I by-passed the shelving circuit.
