New music genre
« on: 7 Jan 2016, 04:00 pm »
This morning I overheard two young country music fans discussing the local radio programming, and wishing they'd hear more of the old-style "country" music.

The referred to the current style as "Hick Hop."  I thought that was a good term for guys who sing with a clothespin clasped on their nose.

Let the flame wars begin!

I kind of like Sons of The Pioneers and Frankie Laine's recordings of Cool Water, High Noon and Rawhide  My music professor in college called the country music of the time "Co-dependent Nasal Wailing" and I have never heard better description since. I remember when country crossover music originated and now days much of what is labeled "country" music is indistinguishable from pop music to my ears.

When someone asks me if I like "country" music, I ask them what country are we talking about. If it's Britain, I usually say yes. If it's American, I usually say no if it's produced in Nashville: too over-produced.
