Can someone tell me if it's better to have a high power anmp drive low power speakers or vice versa.

if you mean a high power amp with hard to drive speakers then i would say no...
you'd probably get far more bang for your buck, and a whole lot more choice in terms of speaker/amp combinations with an easy to drive speaker and a low powered amp, probably sound better too.

It's much better to have a higher rated amp than higher rated speakers.

Say you have an amp rated at 150W @ 8Ohms and a pair of 100W @ 8Ohm rated speakers..that is preferable to the other way around.

The reason is it is distortion that normally kills speakers, so if you keep the amp in it's safe operating range and not clipping, the speakers should survive fine.

On the other hand if you drive a 100W amp to far, it can clip and destroy your 150W rated speakers.

Of course you can also run your 150W amp to clipping and diestroy your 100W rated speakers too, but on the whole, it is better to have a higher rated amp that is not pushed to it's limits.
