Current BIT face plate pics?
« on: 2 Jan 2016, 07:33 pm »
I believe there was a change in BIT face plates (earlier last year?) , and eventually there was a pic of the new faceplate posted. I thought I remembered the front being almost entirely flat. I can't for the life of me find it though. Anyone else know where its at?

What's that monster, a 45 or 60? From the pic it looks a lot bigger than the 20.

Is the Bryston logo etched or silkscreened? I can't tell form the pic. What about model names, I don't see one in that pic. Are these the only Bryston products that don't have model names on them? If so why not at least silkscreen the name on like on your digital products.

Hi

Its etched.

Not having the model number saves production costs as you do not have to carry all different versions of the same size faceplates or different silkscreens.

So is this going to become a trend implemented across all your products i.e. aside from any etching all faceplates will be free from model numbers, etc?

Hi

No just on the ones that make sense economically. For example one of the advantages of the new Cubed amp faceplate design is all the faceplates of similar size are identical - only the insert changes.

Ah, gotcha.

A bit off topic, the 20->15 cords you offer for the BIT-20 and BIT-20AVR in order to connect them to 15A circuits, what are those cords spec'd at, 15A or 20A, so 14AWG or 12AWG? The reason I'm curious is say a person needs one initially then upgrades the house wiring and receptacles to 20A later but misplaces the true 20A cord that came with the unit. Will it be safe to continue to use the 20->15 cord and will that cord once connected to a 20A system allow for the true 20A performance of the unit even though the AC plug is different i.e. a 15A plug and not a 20A plug?

Do you offer receptacle choices on the BITs? They come with Hubbell as standard but could they be ordered with Furutech, Wattgate, PS Audio, Oyaide, etc?

No - sorry they are only available with Hubbell. If you changed the plug you would have to resubmit the unit for safety and electrical clearances to many different agencies around the world - so what already is a nightmare gets compounded.  :duh:

Hi

I would always use the appropriate cord specified by the safety agencies in your specific country

I never thought about that aspect so I can understand not offering the option. I just knew that PurePower does do that for their products so there is a precedent for it.

I'm in Canada so the gauges would be 14AWG and 12AWG for 15A and 20A. It's just that I've always been confused about the nature/purpose of the IEC and AC when it comes what really matters. I get the impression it's the actual cable itself and not the connectors that truly dictate current limitations and safety. I get the impression that the connectors are there more for ease of use so consumers plug things in to appropriate outlets.

One thing I have learned through all this is a lot of companies do not bother submitting products for these safety requirements as the time and cost is really excessive.
