5.1 setup help
« on: 14 Nov 2015, 08:32 pm »
Hello folks,

I need your expert help regarding the speaker placement.

Is the suggested placement alright?
I am mainly worried about the rear speaker placement.I am not sure how would I place the rear speakers on the side wall as there is a window on the right side.
The centre channel would be placed below/above the screen.

My setup:
1) Bang and Olufsen Beolab 14 5.1
2) Nuforce AVP-18
3) Sony S4500 blu ray player
Total cost: $3100
Also, If you have suggestions for a better setup in this price range, i am all ears  :)

Sony has a map of how to layout the speakers so that the 5.1 can match what they have engineered the movies for. However, everyone's listening room is different so its hard to follow the recipe. I have my surrounds on the side walls, but your diagram can work. It's not ideal, but not many have "ideal" installs. One thing to remember is to enter your speaker distances (to listener) dimensions to help compensate for irregular speaker placement. This distance helps improve arrival times from all of the channels and enhances the experience.

Within the limits of the room and it's arrangement what you show looks good. Will most of your listening and watching take place from bed or a chair in front of the bed?

Seated in front of the bed more in the center will give a more seamless surround sound effect.

Seated on the bed the rear channels will need to be turned down and have more delay or they will stand out from the mix.

Enjoy!!

P.S. I just looked up the BeoLab 14 system. Very nice, perfect solution for a room like yours sid24.

Your AVP should have a setup EQ.  Place your speakers where they fit your room layout, put the mic in the position that you will view movie from and let the Nuforce do it's thing.  If you don't like what you hear, the unit should let you manually reset things.  Not all sound tracks will sound spectacular so have fun listening and adjusting.

Point the rear surrounds towards your listening position.

Run the AVP18 room EQ software with the mic at your listening position.
