Can hires and/or lossless files be downloaded directly from the iTune store?

Can hires and/or lossless files be downloaded directly from the iTune store?

I thought lossless music file types could be selected when purchasing music directly from the iTunes Store but I am not finding a way to do it. Is it the case that only hires and/or lossless files obtained elsewhere can be played using iTunes but not purchased directly from the iTunes Store?

No, the iTunes store only sells compressed lossy music files (mostly 256kbps AAC).

iTunes can play lossless AIFF, ALAC and WAV files up to 24/192, but cannot play FLAC or DSD file formats.
