reliable SPL/Frequency meter on IOS
« on: 26 Sep 2015, 07:14 pm »
HI,

Trying to approach my system setup a bit more scientifically, I'mm looking for an iOS SPL/Frequency meter that is somewhat reliable.

Doesn't need to be free, but shouldn't cost too much either  :green:

I've downloaded frequency meter Pro https://itunes.apple.com/nl/app/frequency-meter-pro-professional/id559840622?mt=8 which is horrible, and have tried a few free ones, but they are useless for what im looking for: finding the frequencies of the spl dips I'm hearing on a test sound wave of 200-20 hz, 5 hz per second.

Ive got a DB/spl meter that works allright, it doesn't show the frequencies though.

Thanks,
Marius

If you have an SPL meter, then you don't require one that displays frequency.

You simply need to know the frequency that is being played, and that's accomplished by downloading a free frequency generator program to your computer and feed your computers output through your sound system. Now you can be in control of the frequency being generated, and find where the problem areas are.

Hi,

testing with this online tone generator: http://onlinetonegenerator.com/frequency-sweep-generator.html.  Free and very easy to setup for special purposes. Im testing a 200 to 15 hz sweep now, and because one can set the duration (I use 40 sec right now) can pinpoint the frequencies that need attention.

feeding it from my macbook to the BDA1 usb in.

thought you might be interested in this tool.

This getting more fun by the second. Had i previously hooked up my macbook via USB to the bda1, i tried the Shairplay connection through the BDP1 successfully. Testing from the couch now, laptop on my lap (duh), doesn't get any better.

move over to the 10bsub effect of db slope switches thread for results, and please read along to help if you can.

Thanks,
Marius
