FS: BMC S1 Amplifier - Excellent
« on: 1 May 2015, 06:28 pm »
This wonderful amplifier replaced my Joules Electra VZN100’s. Those were dangerous and untrustworthy, especially when I had my 2 year old in the room.  The Joules is arguably one of the very best sounding amplifiers ever made. The BMC did not back down replacing the Joules and has performed in its own solid state way, amazingly, and it is infinitely safer with our young'un.

To put into perspective, I had brought this amp to a few audio meet-ups. Seasoned audiophiles were blown away how good this amp is, and dismayed how bad their amps were. And in short order at least one of them owns the BMC. Paired with my Clearwave 5R’s and a pair of Adam SW260 subwoofers, the musical prowess was breathtaking.

I did not think I would sell this amp. I’ve enjoyed its warmth, unbelievable construction, and reliability. It’s pretty too. I’ve completely gone another route in audio thus I have to part with my BMC. We’ve going way up the food chain, hopefully for good, going with the big Ushers and soon, huge monoblock amplifiers.  :thumb:

It’s very heavy and not fun to move. A 2000 watt toroidal transformer lurks within. Power is rated at 175 watts into 8 ohms and 330 watts into 4 ohms.
I'd rate it 8 of 10. The face is nearly perfect. I'd have to really look again but I think the entire amplifier is in great shape although I did see a ding on the back of one of its cooling fins. The attached photo shows some weird blemish on the face. I should have been more conscious when I took the shot. :duh:

Price is $2800

Thanks for looking.

I've heard this amp effortlessly power a great quality system. The improvement once it was introduced into the music chain was a jaw dropper. We put it through the paces and it never failed to engage and evoke emotion way beyond its price. Highly recommended at any dollar amount. I especially like the Minion Eye.

You should invest in this amp.

Hi Michael,

This looks like a great amp! I couldn't find much doing a quick search on-line so I have a couple of questions:

1. I noticed the input select and volume control on the front panel. Can the S1 be used without a preamp? I only use two inputs in my 2 channel setup: unbalanced RCA for analog and balanced XLR for digital. So if I could switch between the two possibly active inputs without causing a noise spike that would work for me.

2. Does the S1 have a remote for volume control?

Not sure if this is still for sale but I can answer the questions.

1) yes but only when used with a BMC Digm mode device.

From the M2 manual but similar to the S1.

http://bmc-audio.com/tl_files/bmc_audio/pdfs/Manuals/M2-Manual-1302-En.pdf

DIGM Mode will be selected automatically if an optical DIGM signal is
present. (DIGM = Discrete Intelligent Gain Management)
DIGM Mode means:
• The gain of the M2 can be controlled without loss by an external DIGM control
unit, such as B.M.C.’s DAC1

2) no, no remote is included.

FWIW, I bought an S1 after hearing Michael's, for considerably more.
