Doh! Broke a pot adjuster!
« on: 5 Oct 2004, 04:50 pm »
When my RM30C was delivered, the pots were adjusted with the highs turned all the way up and the mids turned all the way down.  Even with this, the RM30C sounded surprisingly good with voices, although I only watched maybe half a movie because I was so enthralled with the RM40s. Anyway, a friend came over to help me tweak the system, and he discovered that the mids weren't producing any sound.  When I went to adjust the highs, I didn't realize they were turned all the way up and used a thin screwdriver to try and adjust them.  Before I knew what was happening, the pot adjuster split in half.  I can still use the other half to adjust the pots, but the pot adjuster is hard to grip.  (As can be expected, adjusting the pots made a world of difference!)

Can I replace just one pot adjuster?  If so, how hard is this to do?

Replacing a pot is a real bear.  I suggest gluing a knob to the pot.

Thanks, Brian.  That sounds like a plan!  (Now, I just need to find a knob that works.)

Radio Shack sells a small knob that fits.  Shaft is 1/4".

Thanks again, Brian.  I might pick up 6 of them (2 for each of my speakers) in case I like using them.

I feel your pain. I was tweaking my LRC last night and pushed one of the pots into the cabinet by accident.

Looks like I get to open the cabinet to silicone it back  :(

That is a bummer!  I didn't know that could happen.  I'll have to be careful.

Don't worry. I built mine from a kit. I'm sure one built by Brian won't do this.

I wouldn't have minded building one from a kit.  In fact, I think that if I buy a VMPS sub, I might build an Aska amplifier (or something like it) from a kit.
